New job in Northborough

Yea, I have accepted a new position as technology specialist at the Peaslee School (K-5). It should be a lot of fun being back in an intense learning environment. I can't wait to get started. I'll be looking after the IT lab and the schools technical infrastructure while helping teachers and students to leverage technology towards improved learning skills. Long list of secondary activities. Usually this position includes web sites, photography and AV stuff, which are fun also. Looks like they have not used LOGO to introduce math and programming concepts so I'll be trying to develop some reusable curriculum assets for them as well.

love to learn, learn to love.....its a good day.

  1. Bummer, let go after 26 days! Principle said I was "not a good fit". What the heck does that mean? I got along great with teachers and students and addressed every technical issue that came up. The principle seemed to be looking for reasons to complain from the first day so it was uncomfortable after a while, walking on egg shells, anyway. I sensed that there were underlying political and budget tensions that had more to do with it than anything I did or didn't do. Every conversation I had with him was admonitions about what I should not do rather than what I should be doing or was trying to do (helping teachers and students and looking after infrastructure). Things I was advised not to do included communications with staff, any web site process, or infrastructure improvements, and there seemed to be some imaginary problems and worries having to do with encroachment by district technical authorities. Every question or suggestion (like how does one reset the voice mail password here?) was responded to as if it a criticism or simply ignored. Hard to figure. A first in my career but probably for the best in the long run. It was my first exposure to a "rich" edu environment in terms of resources and the budget games that get played with the taxpayers. Lots of idle computers laying around. Resource rich does not equate to educational value though. The kids only got 45 or 60 minutes of lab time per week and most of that was spent on edutainment cd titles, or web sites or touch typing. Does anybody still think that touch typing is a must have skill for the class of 2018??
